William Goodaire letter to Wirt Robinson, [manuscript] 1826 Aug 13.

Goodaire writes from the University of Virginia, where he arrived on Aug. 11. He tells Robinson that he was awakened at about 3:00 a.m. by a party of students from the University who entered his hotel and demanded drink. The students played their drum, fife and clarinet [?] for an hour and then entered the nearby courthouse through a window and "rang the bell violently for 20 minutes as a solo." Goodaire assumes that the "evening's entertainment was most probably concluded in the same manner as others always have been, by turning the road to the University, removing the fence on the outer angle of a sharp turn and building it straight across the road." Goodaire concludes by telling Robinson that he will delay his trip to Natural Bridge until Wednesday in order to meet Robinson there.
